This very damaged but slowly recovering famous yew stands next to the ruins of Sir William Wallace’s birthplace and has been known as Wallace’s Yew for over 200 years. Some claim it is the yew he played under when a child (he was born in 1270) others that it was seeded from a yew already known as Wallace’s Yew (whereabouts unknown). Thought to be around 300 years ago there are historical reports which suggest this yew may be more than it appears to be (link to Wallace Yew article).
