The church was built in 1843 and in the churchyard stands a male yew with a girth of 273 cm at 100 cm high (SYTHI 2020).
Such a girth would normally indicate a yew to be around 250 – 300 years old but as there is no indication that this yew was here before the church was built, it is assumed the yew is no more than around 170 years old. Although size suggesting it could be older cannot be discounted. If it is around 170 years old then it has grown at a remarkable rate and this may be due to the fact that it has no shade, nutrient or water competition from other trees near it.
