Old Pentland Kirkyard

The present kirkyard dates to the 17^th century but was established on the site of the old parish church founded in the 13^th century, which had connections with the Knights Templar. The kirkyard contains the Gibsone mausoleum (1839) and an 18^th century watch house, which guarded the site against body snatchers, now containing two medieval grave slabs.  Two sides of the kirkyard are lined with yews which appear to be of 19^th century origin and more stand hard by the walls of the mausoleum and are probably older.
