These two yews grow alongside the remains of gateposts to the south of Grange House in a strip of trees. The grange of Monifieth was a grange of Arbroath Abbey until 1322 when it became the possession of the Durham family. The gateway was commissioned in 1650 by the first Duke of Montrose. It is not clear whether the yews were planted at this time or after the death of the Duke. The woodland is under a TPO via Angus Council although the yews are not specifically mentioned.
