The ancient site of Glamis Castle, near Forfar in Angus, is the home of the Earl and Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne, and stands in stunning surroundings of parkland and both formal and agricultural gardens. It is also the home of some particularly important and historically significant yew trees including two planted by the Royal Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret in 1937. An avenue of yew hedge from the castle leads to the late Princess Margaret’s memorial. It was under the shade and shelter of three yews, two of them ancient, standing to the south of the castle where the princesses are known to have loved playing in early childhood.
