Ford Chapel is a tiny building in the small village of Ford at the southern end of Loch Awe. It was built in the late 1800’s.
Two yews stand at either end of the chapel, squeezed into the gap between the building and the fence surrounding it. It is thought they are contemporary or thereabouts with the building and so, despite their small sizes and small cramped canopies they are now over 200 years old. The fact that these yews have been crammed into the available space, and cared for since as best as possible in the circumstances, surely shows that the presence of yew trees at this sacred spot was a vital one.
