The present kirk at Monzie was built during 1930 – 1931 and replaced a much earlier church building. It is not known when the first church was built here but the parish of Monzie is mentioned in the 13th century. Four yews, two male and two female line a steep bank on the edge of the churchyard bordering the road.
Accessing them is difficult as the area is heavily overgrown with ivy which obscures much of the yews lower growth. The largest yew, a male, has an estimated girth of around 300 cm suggesting it predates the present building by around 200 years. Of the others girth measurements revealed a range from 183 – 295 cm measured at 100 cm high (SYTHI 2017) however, it seems certain the group were all planted at the same time.
